Woman dies in Spartan sauna fire
A woman died on Thursday night in a fire at the Leeds gay sauna, Spartan. The Yorkshire Post said that the woman, 32 year old Samantha Pithie, worked at the sauna, although the BBC said she worked at the massage parlour housed above the sauna.
A neighbour said that two men broke into the building in the early hours of the night and set alight to it. Police are treating the death as murder and are investigating links to previous attacks on the premises. The attack on the sauna comes days after the owner announced that Spartan would stop being a gay sauna, because of falling numbers of visitors, despite a recent refurbishment. The Basement sauna opened in the centre of Leeds earlier this year.
